RE: School Lunches

WOW, did not realize just how bad a lunch maker I was until now. I have NEver sent anything hot unless I deliver right before lunch. I usually make send a combination of things like sandwich, cheese and crackers, pretzels, apple sauce or some kind of fruit, carrots and ranch or another veggie. It is usually the "main" item that I get stuck on. For the last two weeks I have had them buy lunch and one of my daughters never eats it. I wonder how smoothies would hold up?

I'm a horrible lunch maker. lol. Poor dd eats in the cafeteria almost everyday. I should get a canister and make her lunch. It would probably be much cheaper.

I send hot meals for my son's lunch too. The canisters really work - but be sure that it's made for hot food. I got one at first that LOOKED like it would work - it was even "Thermos" brand - but it started leaking after a few uses. Then I noticed the small print on the bottom that said "cold foods only".

His absolute FAVORITE lunch is my homemade chicken and noodles. So anytime I make it for dinner, I make extra to freeze for his lunches.

Have you tried tortilla roll ups, mini bagels, pitas or those flat out flavored wraps? One of my friends makes mac-n-cheese, tomatoe soup and left over hot dish for his canister and she swears it stays hot the whole time if you buy a "good quality" one.

RE: School Lunches

I use a football ice pack for my son's lunch (turkey and cheese always) and a basketball ice pack for his drink. He eats close to four hours as well and his lunch is still cold and the ice packs are still frozen after school. I got them a Target for $2 or so, they have soccer one too! Not sure on the girls side what they have!!!

Do you have an ice pack to put in their lunches? I would include one each day that they had any kind of perishable food. They come in all kinds of cute shapes! And they really keep the interior cool...especially if their lunch box/sack is insulated. We used small lunch boxes that looked like mini "coolers".

RE: School Lunches

I always pack lunches the night before, seems to be the best way to get out the door! I will say I could use some ideas for variety, though, my poor kids eat turkey sandwiches every day!
